I was there too as a kid every year between the mid 60's to the mid 70's. It was really sad when they pulled the 'Ship' down (Berengaria Theatre). I spent many happy times in there.
Hello...My late husband Alan and I were at Middleton Tower from the early 60`s right through until it closed in 1994. I was a dancer. Met, and married the photographer, Alan, and joined him on the photography. A very large part of our lives was spent there.
I am in the process of tracing my family history and have today discovered that my natural father,Leonard Price, who died aged 56 in 1971, was a manager at Pontins Middleton Tower. I anm wondering if you or anyone else has any further information about him - perhaps, if I am lucky, even a photograph. All it says on the death certificate was that he lived in one of the chalets at the camp and that his son Raymond resgistered the death. I have no idea howlong he was there but there is just a chance that someone will remeber him.

It was a lovely holiday place from what I remember from 2 holidays there in 1983 and 1984. Shame I never got to back as an adult. Much like many Pontin's camps sadly.

Pontin's Dolphin 1985-1990, Middleton Tower 1983-1984,
Plemont Bay 1990 and St Mary's Bay 1991.
Me and my friend were there in 1984 with her family. It was the first time we had a chalet of our own and as 15 year olds, we loved it.
We loved the Tudor Bar nad have photos that i will add. Xx
1977- Waiter in the 3000 seater dining room during the day and then in the evenings unofficial Camp Photographer for Staff Only.
I used to go round taking pictures of staff in the evenings, then send off the films for processing.
When they came back after a week or two I would offer them to the staff for 50p each!
I also used to help out the DJ, sitting in for him for the odd half hour.
1977 Xmas - Waiter Great parties, slightly hazy memories - too much drink!
1978- Dining room became self service, I started off behind counters,
When the DJ left early on in the season I took over.
Got sacked near the end of the season for using my friend to cover for me one night while I went to one of my BBC Interviews,
a fight started in the Disco and the Management were not happy that I was not there!
( I was contracted for 7 nights a week)
I passed my interviews, all three, got my dream Job at the BBC, started as A Trainee Cameraman Nov 1978, after travelling round India for a few months.
Hello...so a career started by pirating on someone else`s expensive concession!..
Ah well water under the bridge now!.. glad you have turned photography into a career... all the best
Yvonne (Photographer,.. with late husband Alan.. from 1960`s till it closed 1994)
No it wasn't that easy- my career didn't start as a result of pirating your consession,
I did have to go to Uni. first!
I joined as Video Cameaman not stills.
The only pics I took were for Staff who were friends and not sold for profit.
The second year I was there I was too busy as the DJ to take any.
I know its a little late to apologise, (33 years) but I'm sorry if I took any of your business away at the time
I do regret not keeping any pics from that era
I had a great time there, and I've enjoyed reading your stories
I am sure it wasnt that easy, Rob...just my rather odd sense of humour (my only excuse is that I spend 30+ years on holiday camps..
Had we known at the time it would have been different maybe !
All the best to you!
Yvonne
